 3743 0183Abstract: In Ontology-based Data Management (OBDM)\, an ontology
is linked to the data sources of an organization in order to integrate and
manage data through concepts and relations. Typically\, the ontology is a
logic-based representation of a domain of interest\, and the mapping spec
ifies the relationship between the data at the sources and the elements in
the ontology. While the great majority of contributions in OBDM in the la
st decade have been concerned with the issue of computing the answers to q
ueries expressed over the ontology\, this seminar will discuss a different
reasoning task\, namely Abstraction\, which is essential to characterize
or explain the semantics of data services in terms of the elements of the
domain ontology. More precisely\, given a data service expressed as a quer
y over the source schema\, Abstraction is the task of automatically derivi
ng the query over the ontology that best describes the data service with r
espect to the underlying OBDM specification. This seminar will first offer
a general overview of Abstraction and then discuss some recentadvances an
d open problems.Short bio: Gianluca Cima obtained a PhD in Engineering in
Computer Science from Sapienza University of Rome in 2020. During his PhD\
, he carried out a 6-months research visit at the University of Oxford and
his PhD thesis received a recognition of outstanding quality from EurAI.
Since February 2021\, he has been a Postdoctoral Researcher at CNRS - Univ
ersity of Bordeaux. His research interests include Knowledge Representatio
n\, Semantic Web\, and Theory of Data Management. He regularly serves as a
  reviewer for internationally renowned journals (e.g. AIJ\, JoWS\, JDIQ\,
and VLDB) and conferences (e.g. IJCAI\, AAAI\, and KR). He has co-authored
several peer-reviewed papers published in top-class conferences of his re
 search areas\, including AAAI\, CIKM\, IJCAI\, KR\, LICS and PODS.
