Cognitive Developmental Robotics: yesterday, today, and tomorrow

Cognitive Developmental Robotics aims at understating human's cognitive developmental process based on the constructive approaches utilizing robots as a tool or computer simulations. In this talk, I review the approaches in Cognitive Developmental Robotics (yesterday), and introduce the current topics of computational neuroscience (today), and discuss about future social issues (tomorrow).

Minoru Asada is Professor of Adaptive Machine Systems, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University, Japan.

  • Research Leader for the Specially Promoted Research Project (Tokusui) on Constructive Developmental Science Based on Understanding the Process From Neuro-Dynamics to Social Interaction.
  • Director of the division of cognitive neuroscience robotics, the Institute for Academic Initiatives (IAI), Osaka University
  • Research Director of the JST (Japan Science and Technology Agency) ERATO (Exploratory Research for Advanced Technology) ASADA Synergistic Intelligence Project during 2005 and 2012.
  • President of Robocup Federation, 2003-2008.
